Originating in Southeast Asia according to fossil records, the Western Honey Bee has been around for approximately 35 million years with their earliest ancestors, Hymenoptera, dating back approximately 270 millions years. From the Hymenoptera insect order came bees, wasps, ants, and sawflies. Approximately 130 million years ago according to fossil records, the first flowering plants evolved. Around 100 million years ago, bees evolved from a wasp species that fed on smaller insects covered in pollen, and overtime they came to favor the pollen. Corbiculates were the new species that went on to split into three new species, honeybees, sweat bees, and bumble bees. Then, the world was thrown into chaos as three quarters of all life on plant Earth, including the dinosaurs, experienced a massive extinction event due to the direct and indirect climatic effects caused by a giant asteroid impact. Luckily the bees being resourceful creatures, survived and thrived in an Earth dominated by plants, small mammals, and flying birds.
